Nairobi County Web3 Bootcamp – 3 Days That Changed Everything
April 2025 | Nairobi County, Kenya
They say you can’t build Rome in a day – but over three electrifying days at the Nairobi County Web3 Innovation Bootcamp, we saw a glimpse of what building Africa’s digital future could look like. Hosted by MUIAA Ltd in partnership with Nairobi City County Government and Computer Aid International, this event brought together over 30 of Nairobi’s brightest minds — developers, entrepreneurs, students, and innovators for hands-on immersion into the world of blockchain, Web3, and decentralized finance (DeFi).
Let’s break it down.
Day 1: Laying the Blockchain Foundation (Yes, We Started With the Basic & Yes, It Wasn’t Boring)
Day 1 kicked off with foundational sessions that decoded blockchain and Web3 for attendees. Think of it as “Blockchain 101” but with more passion and fewer pointers.
Key highlights included:
- Web3 & Blockchain Fundamentals – Where terms like “immutable ledger” finally made sense.
- Careers & Startups in Web3 – Because who doesn’t want to be the next Satoshi… or at least get paid in crypto?
Inspiration flowed from our esteemed speakers:
- Elizabeth Ndungu (Nairobi City County): “Blockchain is not just tech. It’s an ecosystem shift.”
- Keith Sonnet (Computer Aid International)- reminding us that inclusion matters in every revolution.
- Martin Kimani and Omambia Dauglous – sharing how to build impactful digital businesses from the ground up.
We wrapped the day with a networking session so lively, even the introverts forgot about LinkedIn for a moment.
Day 2: Into the Heart of Web3 (Yes, We Talked Wallets… But Not the Leather Kind)
Day 2 was all about real tools and real applications. Sessions included:
- Wallets & On-Chain Identity
- Smart Contract Basics
- DeFi Use Cases
- Pitch-Ready Project Ideation
The star mentors of the day – Marvin Ngala, Parvin Kiptoo, David Montee, and Enoch — didn’t just explain smart contracts; they practically made us want to marry one.
Meanwhile, Martin Kimani delivered a standout session on pitching blockchain ideas, because if you can’t sell your idea, even the best smart contract won’t save you.
Day 3: Bootcamp Final Day
The final day brought everything together. Attendees refined their ideas, practiced their pitches, and prepared to present their capstone projects. The energy in the room was electric, or should we say “on-chain”?
We were joined by honored guests from Nairobi County Government:
- Hon. Mike Mayo Gumo
- David Oyolo Sande
- Elizabeth Ndungu
Their presence was a powerful reminder that innovation is only meaningful when it’s supported at every level – from grassroots developers to government leadership. And yes, certificates were handed out. Selfies were taken. Maybe even a tear or two was shed.
In summary, what happened over those three days wasn’t just a bootcamp. It was a movement, powered by curiosity, collaboration, and the belief that Africa isn’t just adopting Web3; it’s redefining it.
