Partnership Aims to Expand AI Literacy Across Nairobi County
MUIAA Limited, in collaboration with Otermans Institute and Nairobi City County Government, officially launched a new Artificial Intelligence Training Initiative aimed at equipping county staff, youth, entrepreneurs, and members of the public with practical AI skills needed for the rapidly evolving digital economy.
The initiative was unveiled during the Nairobi City County AI Training Initiative Launch and Innovation Showcase Breakfast held at GemSuites River Road Hotel in Nairobi. The event brought together county leadership, technology experts, development partners, innovators, educational institutions, and community stakeholders to discuss the future of artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and innovation-driven economic growth for Nairobi County.
The launch marks an important milestone in Nairobi’s journey toward becoming a leading hub for digital innovation while ensuring that opportunities created by emerging technologies remain accessible to local communities.
Deputy Governor Leads Official Launch of AI Programme
The event was presided over by Nairobi City County Deputy Governor Njoroge Muchiri, who officially launched the AI training programme and reaffirmed the county government’s commitment to strengthening digital skills, innovation, and technology adoption across Nairobi.
The programme is expected to bridge AI literacy for county employees, young professionals, entrepreneurs, students, and community leaders to acquire practical knowledge in artificial intelligence and its applications across different sectors.
The initiative forms part of broader efforts to prepare Nairobi’s workforce for a future increasingly shaped by data, automation, machine learning, and digital technologies.
The training programme seeks to ensure that local communities are not left behind as these technologies continue to reshape economies around the world.
Training of Trainers Graduates
A key highlight of the event was the graduation and certification of participants who successfully completed the Otermans Institute Artificial Intelligence Training of Trainers programme.
The graduates represent a growing network of AI ambassadors who will play a critical role in supporting future training and knowledge-sharing efforts within Nairobi City County and beyond.
By equiping local trainers, the initiative creates a multiplier effect that allows AI knowledge to reach larger segments of the population while building sustainable digital capacity within communities.
The approach aligns with the shared vision of MUIAA Limited, Otermans Institute, and Nairobi City County to create long-term impact through education, skills development, and innovation.
Other Launches….
Beyond the AI programme, the event also provided an opportunity to launch innovative solutions developed by MUIAA Limited to address real-world challenges facing communities, organisations, and financial groups.
Two flagship platforms, SkillChain and ChamaConnect, were officially unveiled during the breakfast, demonstrating how emerging technologies can be applied to solve practical problems while promoting financial inclusion, skills development, and digital empowerment.
The platforms attracted significant interest from stakeholders attending the event, including county officials, development organisations, educational institutions, welfare groups, and technology ecosystem partners.
SkillChain: Building Africa’s Digital Workforce
One of the solutions showcased is SkillChain, MUIAA Limited’s blockchain and AI education platform designed to help prepare Africa’s next generation of digital talent.
The platform offers practical, project-based learning focused on artificial intelligence, blockchain technology, smart contract development, Web3 tools, and emerging digital technologies. Rather than relying solely on theoretical instruction, SkillChain emphasises hands-on learning, mentorship, hackathons, bootcamps, and real-world project development.
MUIAA Ltd: The platform was developed to help close the growing digital skills gap by creating pathways for learners to gain industry-relevant knowledge, build portfolios, access mentorship, and connect with employment opportunities.
SkillChain also supports instructor development, certification programmes, talent matching, and specialised learning tracks designed to make advanced digital education more accessible to African learners.
The platform is expected to play an important role in supporting the newly launched AI training initiative as demand for digital skills continues to grow across Kenya and the wider region.
ChamaConnect: Digital Transformation to Community Finance
The second innovation unveiled during the event is ChamaConnect, a blockchain-powered financial management platform developed specifically for Chamas, SACCOs, welfare groups, table banking organisations, and merry-go-round savings groups.
ChamaConnect is created to modernise how community-based financial groups manage contributions, loans, repayments, penalties, dividends, welfare funds, and member records while maintaining the trust and accountability that have traditionally defined these groups.
The platform uses blockchain-backed verification systems to create transparent and tamper-resistant financial records, helping groups reduce disputes, improve accountability, and strengthen financial governance.
Features include contribution tracking, loan management, guarantor management, automated financial policies, reporting dashboards, member management tools, and blockchain-secured transaction records.
By digitising traditional savings and welfare systems, ChamaConnect aims to help community groups operate more efficiently while preserving the social structures that have long supported financial inclusion across Kenya.
A Shared Vision for Inclusive Innovation
The event highlighted the growing importance of partnerships between government, educational institutions, technology companies, and community organisations in advancing digital transformation.
For MUIAA Limited, the collaboration with Nairobi City County and Otermans Institute represents more than a single training programme. It reflects a broader commitment to creating practical technology solutions that improve livelihoods, expand economic opportunities, and equip communities with the skills needed to participate in the digital economy.
As artificial intelligence, blockchain, and other emerging technologies continue to reshape industries worldwide, initiatives that combine skills development with locally relevant innovation are expected to play an increasingly important role in ensuring that communities benefit from technological progress.
The launch of the Nairobi City County AI Training Initiative, together with the unveiling of SkillChain and ChamaConnect, signals a growing effort to position Nairobi as a centre for innovation while creating pathways for inclusive and sustainable digital growth.
